The legendary Indianapolis 500 is rapidly approaching, and the very best of the auto-racing community will gather to bear witness to the spectacular event. This month, it was announced that the 2019 Corvette Grand Sport will be the Official Pace Car for the 2019 race, leading the charge of 33 drivers on May 26th.
The 2019 Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge marks the 103rd year of the race. Remarkably, a Chevy Corvette has served as the Pace Car 16 times in the event’s history, and a Chevy vehicle has led the race a total of 30 times since 1948. As a result, no other brand or vehicle has served as the Official Pace Car more than Chevrolet or the Corvette. The automaker is honored to take up the mantle again for 2019, with Director of Chevrolet passenger car and crossover marketing Steve Majoros saying that “The Grand Sport is a particularly excellent choice as its wide body and aerodynamic features are steeped in racing heritage.”
The 2019 Corvette Grand Sport won’t be the only Corvette to make an appearance in Indianapolis this spring. A total of 33 2019 Corvette Stingrays will grace Indiana’s roads and take part in the IPL 500 Festival Parade on May 25th in Indianapolis, further celebrating the race and fan-favorite Chevy vehicle.
