Chevrolet has built its reputation through a rich and storied on-track heritage, which has spurred a lineup of high-performing vehicles powered by impressive engines for generations. That legacy continues today, as two Chevy engines were awarded spots on WardsAuto’s list of the 10 Best Engines in 2014.
WardsAuto reviewed 44 engines from 16 automakers to find the powertrains that excelled in power, fuel efficiency, new technology and refinement. Chevy’s two engines are from opposite ends of the spectrum, yet are equally extraordinary.
The first is the highly-publicized LT1 6.2-liter V8 that powers the all-new 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray. Making the 2014 Stingray the most powerful and efficient Corvette ever, the versatile V8 pumps out 460 horsepower, propels the Stingray from 0-60 mph in just 3.8 seconds, while returning 29 mpg highway.
The second is the revolutionary 2.0-liter turbocharged clean diesel engine that powers the 2014 Chevy Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel. Equipped with the innovative diesel engine, the Cruze is able to return a 46 mpg highway.
“At GM – our goal is to design, build and sell the world’s best powertrains – this recognition from the experts at WardsAuto provides two additional proof points that we are on the right track,” said Steve Kiefer, vice president of Global Powertrain, in a press release.
