GM vehicles have secured four of the top eight spots in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s rating program on front crash prevention. The Buick Regal, Cadillac CTS, Cadillac XTS and Chevrolet Impala all earned the highest rating of ‘superior’, and are industry leaders in safety when purchased with the available Front Automatic Braking system.
The Automatic Braking System applies brakes when the car senses that a crash may be imminent and the driver does not take action. The system can help to avoid an accident altogether, or at a minimum, slow the car down enough to create less of an impact.
“We applaud GM’s commitment to making this important safety technology available not only on their luxury Cadillac products, but also on their more mainstream Chevrolet and Buick vehicles,” said IIHS Chief Research Officer David Zuby according to a recent GM news release.
The Automatic Braking System works in conjunction with Forward Collision Alert, which uses sensors to determine when a car is driving to close to the vehicle ahead. The system features a visual and audible warning signal, and in addition, the Cadillac XTS and CTS have vibrating seats. Only vehicles that feature both automatic braking and the warning system can receive superior ratings.
