The Corvette has always been an iconic American car, combining high-speed performance and classic styling. That’s why when we heard a vintage 1956 Corvette Racecar was for sale, we knew we had to check it out.
According to Fox News, the Corvette SR-2 is currently on sale for nearly $6.9 million. You heard right. So what makes this model so special? Well, for starters there are only three in the world. This model was specially modified by the GM director of high performance, Zora Arukus-Duntov, to be the best in the business.
The vintage 1956 Corvette Racecar is a stock Corvette upgraded with racing brakes and suspension, covered headlamps, twin chopped windscreens, cooling scoops, and a small stabilizer fin down the center of the trunk lid. Overall, the V8 powered ‘Vette has 331 horsepower and a top speed over 150 mph. That’s pretty quick considering it’s nearly 60 years old.
Unfortunately this unique Corvette is being sold privately in Southern California. Nonetheless, the iconic Corvette performance is something you can still find today on the 2015 Stingray. Chevy engineers have certainly done well.
